Training classes should be fun, effective, and build trust between you and your dog that enriches the bond between you. Working in animal welfare has been so fulfilling. It has allowed me to make a difference in ending the needless loss of life in America's shelters. It's also given me the opportunity to connect with hundreds, if not thousands, of amazing animals, and many amazing people, too.
Even if it's not, you're getting the dog or cat out of the shelter, which reduces stress and gives them a chance to decompress. Gift pets are no more likely to be given up to shelters than pets that aren't given as gifts. It's a good idea to give a pet to somebody who is already thinking about adopting, but any opportunity we have to give these pets a home is worth taking. Getting a pet from a shelter also has benefits for the person who adopts. Puppy mills, which are often where pet stores get their puppies, often keep their dogs in unsanitary conditions.

Why stress your friends’ or relatives’ dogs in their own homes? They may not respond well, which would be unfortunate for them and your dog. Change your dog’s opinion about the thing that made her uncomfortable. Perhaps it’s a small child and the dog hasn’t been around children.

Use Your Voice for Your Dog
Increase distance between your dog and the perceived threat. Sometimes distance alone will help your dog become more comfortable. When your dog raises only one paw, it can mean your dog is worried or trying to decide on a correct behavior. I tend to think of this as a human saying, “Ummmmm….” while appearing confused. Displacement Behaviors are normal canine behaviors that are displayed out of context that indicate conflict and/or anxiety. Some of these behaviors include yawning when they’re not tired, licking when there is no food present or sudden scratching behavior.
Make sure you look at the dog’s entire body, as individual signals have different meanings depending on the context of the situation. Begin first by observing and noting each individual signal you see the dog display. Once you’ve noted the signals, you’re better able to draw a conclusion as to whether it’s a stressful situation for the dog.
Advocate is applied once a month as a topical treatment, with the dosage based on your pet’s weight. It is important that you only use Advocate products on the animal for which they are intended – do not use Advocate for Dogs on cats, or Advocate for Cats on dogs. To advocate means to support or promote the interests of another.
One myth is that you can't find purebred dogs in shelters. Although it varies by the part of the country where you live, you absolutely can find them. Where I am, in Texas, purebred dogs come into the shelter every day. One myth is that most dogs are given to shelters because something is wrong with them, such as they're sick or can’t be trained. Honestly, we don't often get great information on why dogs are given to shelters. A huge number of them come in as strays or lost dogs, so they're not given up at all.
More than 4 million cats and dogs end up in shelters each year. The reality is that shelters are not the environment these animals were meant to be in. Dogs aren't supposed to be housed in cages with hundreds of dogs around them. They're meant to be with us, in our yards and on our couches. Brief contact of the animal with water on one or two occasions between monthly treatments will notsignificantly reduce the efficacy of the product. However, immersion in water directly after treatment may reduce the efficacy of the product.

It is approved for different indications in cats, dogs and ferrets. Advocate is applied once a month on the skin on the back of the animal (“spot-on”) in one or several spots, depending on the animal’s body weight.
